Resting was not a word found in my vocabulary. From an early age I learned that working 24/7, accomplishing, driving myself to exhaution were the things that held value in my family of origin. I called my sister to ask her if that was her childhood experience too and without hesitation she said, "YES," with an implied "DUH!"
When you hear the word rest - perhaps physical resting comes to mind. But there are several things that fall into the resting category.
Physical - sleep, nap, activites that restore the body: massage, stretch, sound healing.
Mental - Give your brain a break: be still, do something that makes you laugh.
Sensory - Reduce stimulation to your senses: listen to music or go outside into nature.
Creative - Let your creative juices flow - try a new hobby.
Emotional - Feel and express your emotions without trying to people please.
Social - Spend time with supportive/energizing people or take time away alone.
Spiritual - Connect with a higher power of your understanding; spend time in nature.
There could be other things you, yourself need to take a break from. Think of something that keeps you off balance in your life. Got it? Try to envivion a way that you can take a break from it or one of the 7 above. It's Self-Care.
